Saltoro Valleys Trekking Peak Climbing

Saltoro Valleys Trekking Peak Climbing

Overview

The towering peaks of Karakoram have always been a source of great attraction to western mountaineers, especially Saltoro. Saltoro Valley is a beautiful mountaineer's paradise in the eastern Karakoram and the fifth highest human habitation on earth — the gateway to Siachen Glacier. The valley is situated on the southwestern side of the major Karakoram glaciers, among the longest glaciers in the world outside the polar regions.

Saltoro Valley has some of the finest clean granite towers and ice-and-rock mixed peaks offering opportunities to make first ascents. It has three sub-valleys: Gayari, Gyong, and Chulung, where local people bring their cattle in summers. Chulung meadows are very famous in Baltistan for their natural beauty, and these valleys are now open for tourists and mountain adventure lovers worldwide.

The Chumik Kangri (6,754m), Gharkun Tower (6,620m), and many other rock towers around 6,500m remain unnamed and unclimbed. Special permits are required. For further assistance please contact: climb@adventureguide.com.pk
