Biafo Glacier (60 km. long) and Hispar Glacier (61 km. long) meet at the 5151 m. Hispar Glacier is longest glacial systems outside the polar regions. This highway of ice connects two ancient mountain kingdoms; Hunza in the west with Baltistan in the east. In olden times warriors from Hunza would use this natural pathway to invade the peoples of Baltistan, Later, the well known sport of “Polo” a Balti word meaning ball, served as a more positive outlet for aggression between these two kingdoms and matches were played on stretches of level ground in this locality. less visited than the Baltoro glacier. The route was extensively used to connect the English trekker claimed in 1937 that he seen the footprints of yeti on the glacier, The area hereabouts is no less spectacular-Particularly at dawn as clouds clear after a heavy fall of snow. At the head of the Biafo Glacier and at the foot of the Hispar Pass is the remarkable white wilderness know as ‘Snow Lake’ This spectacular beauty of this natural wonder is enhanced by the presence of the Ogre or Biantha Brakk, the highest peak in the Region. Such is the stunning beauty of this region combined with its wealth of magnificent snow clad peak, that it is hard to identify any one peak as being. Here one can observe the rare species of animals in abundance like snow leopards, Himalayan Bears, Ibex, and some times you can see the Marco polo Sheep.
